The designer, Anne-Cécile Couetil, founded her own luxury leather-goods label in 2006, mixing a rock-boheme influence with a taste for refined jewelry and high fashion.

Anne-Cécile discovered a real passion for fashion design at an early age, she graduated from the prestigious french fashion school Studio Bercot and the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture. By the age of 21, she had launched her own line of jewelry and evening bags. Her first bag style, the  « sac nœud » (bow bag), launched in 2002 was an international success. Four years later, Anne-Cécile decided to focus her work on leather goods. In 2006 she launched the first collection of Velvetine, revealing a line of bohemian, folk and glam-inspired bags while always keeping a fashion spirit. The designer is mainly inspired by rock band type outfits and the bags themselves are named after rock icons like Layne, Muddy, Josh… The locks are the label’s signature. They are designed by Anne-Cécile and every bag has one in a shape of a needle, a cross, or recently a snake. There is a special attention brought to the materials : the lambskins come from a family owned factory in the south of Italy and are carefully choosen. An ecologic vegetable tanning of the skins make every bag unique.

For the past years the parisian girls and the « it girls », such as Sienna Miller, Alexa Chung and Chloé Sevigny, have adopted Velvetine. Today you can find the Velvetine bags' all over the world in 50 department and concept stores : Baycrews and Via Bus Top in Japan, Lane Crowford at Hong Kong, Harvey Nichols in Dubai, Sarenza, l’Exception, Le Bon Marché, and Joy in France…

For autumn 2016, the designer decided to go back to her first love: Couture. The brand now offers a bridal dress line in addition to the accessories.
